One way we interact with colleges is through Careers Liaison Tutors.
A Careers Liaison Tutor is a member of staff from the college who assists with running a programme of careers sessions for students in each academic year.
They work closely with a designated Careers Adviser who has specialist knowledge of labour markets that are particularly relevant to your college/department.
We can organise a variety of different events with the help of CLTs, such as:
Induction Talks:
A brief overview of the work of the Careers Service is given in many departments during induction week.
Group Sessions:
Used for enhancing employability, writing CVs, getting vacation work, succeeding at interviews or a variety of other topics.
Drop in sessions:
Time permitting it is sometimes possible for a Careers Adviser to run a quick query session in a department- an opportunitity for students to see an adviser briefly on a one to one basis, for CV checking, getting their career ideas started or for interview preparation.
Employer/alumni evenings:
Where a panel of former students from a particular department or working in a particular area may be invited in to talk to students on an informal basis (please note however that although we are able to arrange speakers for these events we do not have a budget to pay for refreshments or administrative costs).
Networking events:
The Careers Service would like to hold an annual careers staff & college staff drinks party where staff can meet and network informally with the Careers Service team. We like to hold this event in September, usually the week before term starts.
We can also provide information on the graduate labour market using Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) Statistics. The Careers Service collects this information on an annual basis in accordance with HESA requirements, and we also send the results to departments annually.
If you are interested in any of the above activities or would like to suggest an alternative please do
contact us and we will put you in touch with the Careers Adviser who looks after your department/college.
