Internships

Getting an internship or other form of work experience is a good way of finding out more about your prospective occupation- and more and more companies are using work experience programmes to feed into their graduate intake. Here are some ways SICS can help you with your search:

Advertised schemes:

Target Work Experience and Prospects Work Experience;  are booklets that are published in November and which have listings of employer internships and placement schemes to apply for.

Prospects also has work experience information & opportunities on their website.

Don't forget also to look at our vacancy pages and receive targetted internship job information to your inbox.
Visit the Careers Tagged to learn more about finding an internship, and collect take away publications. You can also use this site to look for companies offering internship opportunities.

Other tips:

In some areas of work (for example those that are very popular, or where companies do not have a large graduate recruitment budget) you may have to try other ways of getting experience. You might want to try:

Coming to a Quick Query to discuss alternative ways of gaining experience with a Careers Adviser.

Making speculative applications - use the trade directories in the Careers Information Library to identify organisations that do the kind of work you are interested in.

Asking people you know - if they can give you experience or have any suggestions as to how you can go about finding these opportunities.
