Statement on provision of services for users with disabilities_

Queen Mary Careers Service subscribes to The Careers Group standard of service.

The Careers Service works closely with the Disability and Dyslexia Unit and can now guide students to a range of bespoke software available. There is a list of equipment available on campus through the Disability and Dyslexia Unit and the Library. These include:

Software

  • TextHELP Read and Write Version 8 GOLD
  • Inspiration/MindManager - Mind mapping and planning tools, used for organisation of thought and ideas
  • OmniPage - Turns printed text, pdfs or pictures into editable text
  • Kurzweil - Turns printed text, pdfs or pictures into speech
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking - Speech to text
  • MAGIC/Zoomtext/Lunar/iZoom - Magnification tools
  • HAL/JAWS - Screen Reading software
    Other technology:
  • Reading Pens
  • Dictation Machines
  • CCTV - enlarge and change the background colour of documents - available in the Library.

The Careers Service is currently exploring purchasing Inspiration, a leading mind mapping tool which enables Dyslexic students to create diagrammatic representations of work they are producing, such as CVs or application statements.

Furthermore, staff can direct users to the Screen Enlarger within the Library should they require it.

Once a term the Careers Service arranges for Employment Opportunities to come and run drop ins for students with disabilities
