Environmental concerns are important in development, with many professionals pointing out that climate change will do much to undermine anti-poverty drives if it is not addressed internationally, and as part of development programmes.

Many NGOs and campaigning organisations, e.g. Oxfam include climate change as a major aspect of their work, since it is likely to be people in developing countries who suffer the impact first.
