What does development research involve?

The UK has a strong profile in International Development research.

The Institute of Development studies in Brighton was founded as long ago as 1966 and the Development Studies Association, founded to disseminate information on development research and training, lists over 85 of its member organisations representing the three areas of Development research - academic centres, independent think tanks and NGO policy departments.

The ODI, one of the UK's largest International Development think tanks has nearly 100 staff. Bigger NGOs also produce authoritative research in policy and advocacy departments that are almost as large as the ODI.

Researchers are also employed in International Development consultancies.
