Remember you are applying to organisations that have specific objectives and are looking achieve goals by recruiting people with the necessary knowledge, experience and skills to carry out specific tasks.

Loose formulations about 'fighting poverty' will not be enough. Be precise about the skills you are able to bring. For example if you have database skills then cite the packages you are familiar with and how you have used them.
