“Well-organised as always and we really appreciated the fantastic space we had…This fair continues to be an exciting experience each time.”

This comment from City Year demonstrates that the summer London Graduate Fair  continues to be an excellent way of bringing together employers, training organisations and enthusiastic students and graduates.

It is the largest national graduate recruitment event in the UK with exhibitors including IBM and Arcadia Group. This year, attendance was in excess of 3,000 students and graduates. As one visitor remarked, “it actually gave me the opportunity to be in touch with lead companies”.

Given the economic climate it is vital that job seekers have as many opportunities to meet employers as possible, as one visitor told us: “The best thing is that it connected students with top firms we’d otherwise be less likely to [meet]…as it’s tough to get into these firms”.

The fair also offered a wide range of presentations from careers advice on how to write the perfect CV to sector specific careers information, employer presentations and in-depth workshops. Some of these presentations are available on Careers Tagged, The Careers Group’s online graduate resource.

The next London Graduate Fair takes place 16 October 2012. Contact for exhibitor and visitor information.

The London Graduate Fair from The Careers Group and TARGETjobs.co.uk takes place on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 June 2012 at The Business Design Centre in London.

For employers and recruiters the Fair is an excellent way to recruit recent graduates.

Agata Klimaszewska, HR manager of Syncoms, a growing holding company, who own a number of e-commerce brands, such as Printerpix.com said: “Last year was the first time we attended the London Graduate Fair. Syncoms has been experiencing significant growth and the time came for us to access the wealth of talent at such events.

“The Fair increased our reach of potential candidates far beyond our expectations, proving to be a great way of finding fresh and hungry talent.” As a result we recruited four talented grads who joined our Printerpix.com team of marketing professionals.”

The four people recruited by Syncoms include 24 year old Soraya Al-Assmi, who graduated from Kingston University with a maths degree. Soraya wasn’t sure what she wanted to do career-wise when she attended the Fair last October, but she sufficiently impressed Syncoms, who offered her an interview soon after the event and then a permanent graduate role as marketing co-ordinator a few weeks later.

Soraya is thrilled that her efforts paid off, as she spent all day at the Fair, working very hard.

“In one day I filled in more application forms and signed up to more recruitment agencies than I had done in the previous month. I even had an on the spot interview with a sales company,” she recalled.

“I also went to each and every stand at the Fair, attended several seminars and would have gone to more but the day ended at 6pm. I could have stayed until 8pm or 9pm – so a longer day would be ideal!”
