C2, part of The Careers Group, University of London, recently presented a paper at the European Universities Institutes (EUI) Teaching and Learning Conference in Florence. The EUI are looking to develop a centre of excellence for Teaching and Learning, specifically focused on PhD and postdoctoral education. C2 was invited to explore how the careers agenda could fit within this model.
Katie Dallison, C2 Careers Consultant, joined experts from Oxford, the LSE, Exeter and other European Universities, to present and discuss the ideas of using case-based learning with PhD students, introducing more flexible delivery options such as webinars, increasing researchers teaching practice and if leadership skills should be taught to this cohort.
The round-table nature of the conference allowed for interesting discussions and the EUI was able to gain a range of perspectives on many important aspects of researcher development. Katie also had a chance to talk to recent graduates, gaining their perspectives on researcher career development.
The information gained over the course of the conference will be fed into the EUI’s strategic plans to develop the teaching and learning unit. C2 and the EUI are currently exploring ways in which they can work together in the future.
