The creative industries are vital to the UK’s economic success and account for over 5.6% of total UK output. The sector is a popular choice for graduates but career progression tends not to be clearly defined and competition for entry roles is fierce. To help students and graduates navigate creative careers The Careers Group, University of London set up Careers in the Creative Industries which provides information, events and advice to help you break into the sector covering Media, Publishing, Visual & Performing Arts, Games & Digital Media, Journalism, and Culture.

Recently Careers in the Creative Industries has relaunched its social media platforms with Facebook and Twitter getting a new look plus a new Pinterest board making it easy to find the latest news, vacancies and career insights for the sector.

Careers in the Creative Industries runs several events each year on getting into the sector with presentations from industry professionals and the opportunity for students to network and get first hand information on starting their careers. Some feedback from recent events was:

“Incredibly useful. It really gave me the knowledge and encouragement I needed to make a start in the sector” (Getting into TV)
“I learnt a great deal about the industry … I felt more motivated to attempt applications” (Getting into Publishing and Writing)
“Great opportunity to learn about different aspects of the industry” (Getting into Digital Media)

There are more events planned for the new academic year – keep an eye on Facebook to find out what and when.
