More spaces available on Working with PhD Students February 17, 2012
Posted by The Careers Group News in : Professional Development, Training, students , trackbackWould you like a better understanding of the career requirements of your PhD students? The Careers Group have a few extra spaces available at a session on Tuesday 28 February 2012 to address the issues you face when dealing with this client-group.
PhD students are often seen as daunting clients with specific and unusual needs. Who are they? What are their motivations and their career expectations? What are the characteristics of their work/study environment and how do these differ from those of undergraduates? What are the issues they can be expected to bring to the adviser, and how can the adviser help them given the absence of detailed knowledge of the highly specialised employment markets which are of primary interest?
The training will be given by Dr Calum Leckie and Dr Kathy Barrett.

Calum Leckie has been coordinating a programme of careers workshops for PhDs for the past six years in close collaboration with the UCL Graduate School, is actively involved in the delivery of both group work and one to one provision for research students and collaborates with the UCL Careers Service PhD employer engagement manager in the design of employer- led careers events.
Kathy Barrett works with research staff and students at all levels, has a PhD and has supervised PhD students.
