Hi Charlotte, I was in very similar situation for very long time. Finaly I decided to leave London and try my luck at the other end of the world. It worked out pretty well. If you want you can contact me via Jeff (if he doesn't mind to share my email address) and I will tell you more. Best, Adrienn

If anyone is interested in what my question that kept Jeff from his lunch was it was around real hiring numbers, after they sourced candidates from their Internship Programme, and I wrote about it here: http://qmjobsblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/employer-visit-lloyds-banking-group.

Hi there

I have been job hunting for 18 months, nearly 200 applications later I am really struggling. I am absolutely determined to work in international development, I have been since I was about 14, I have two great degrees, fantastic work experience and a whole lot more to give. I have already paid out to have my C.V re-written and it had no effect- in fact I feel quote ripped off! An unpaid internship isn't an option there is no way I can afford to live and my parents don't live in London- is there a secret I'm missing?

Thanks

Hi Robert, thanks for the comment. Some employers have told me they skip covering letters to read the CV first and they quickly scan it to see if the applicant is a reasonable candidate. So I would say the CV is crucial. Having said that if you do write a poor letter it will scupper your chances.

Adrienn - you are a demonstration of what is possible for a person. You clearly believe in what you do and this passion resonates throughout the article.

You have many success orientated strategies in place and I particularly acknowledge you for your personal courage to place yourself in a country and culture to assist with their evolution.

Congratulations!

Some great tips there thanks for sharing Jeff, yourself and Kevin, keep up the good work. Do you think the cover letter is more important than the CV?

Hi Ailin, thanks very much for pointing that out and it was entirely my fault and not that of Piers. And yes, you are right, these simple spelling errors can have a big impact on an article's credibility. I've corrected it now. Thanks again.

Hello. I find this article very interesting. However, I would like to correct the author: there is no country called Columbia. The name of the country is Colombia. It could seem as a simple spelling mistake but it diminish the credibility of the whole article.

Thanks.
